The answer is simple: More regular exercise is fundamentally better than just three minutes.
The World Health Organization recommends that adults engage in at least 150 to 300 minutes of moderate physical activity per week or 75 to 150 minutes of intense physical activity. Additionally, strength training is recommended at least two days per week.
In contrast, three minutes a day amounts to only:

This investigation is also observational and therefore cannot prove a definitive cause-and-effect relationship.

The Key is Regularity
A one-off three-minute training session won’t fundamentally change health. It becomes interesting especially when exercise takes place regularly.
Moreover, three minutes can eventually turn into five, ten, or 20 minutes. Those who start with three minutes and gradually increase can slowly approach the official exercise recommendations.
Short exercise phases in daily life also count. The WHO points out that physical activity doesn’t only consist of traditional sports. Walking, cycling, stair climbing, housework, and other physical activities are also part of daily movement.
Therefore, the main goal should not be to train as little as possible. Rather, it’s about creating a realistic entry barrier.

For Whom Are Short Training Sessions Especially Interesting?
Three-minute sessions can be particularly interesting for people who are currently not very active, sit a lot, or have trouble incorporating longer workout sessions into their daily routine.
They can be incorporated between work phases, during a break, or while waiting for coffee.
However, intense exercise should not automatically be suitable for everyone. Anyone who has not exercised for a long time, has health issues, or experiences unusual pain, dizziness, or significant shortness of breath during exertion should reduce the workload and, if necessary, seek medical advice.
For healthy people, a slow start may be beneficial: starting with light exercise, then a bit more pace, and perhaps later incorporating short intense intervals.

Yes, three minutes of exercise a day can be beneficial for health – but they are no full substitute for regular training.
Current research shows that even short, intense exercise phases can be linked to positive health outcomes. Studies found correlations with a lower risk of cardiovascular diseases, overall mortality, certain cancers, and type 2 diabetes.
